SOUTHFIELD, MI – January 10, 2010 – The editors of Building Design + Construction have selected the Barton Malow Company’s Brian Cummings, Project Director from among more than 260 nominees as a winner in the fourth annual “40 under 40” competition. This program recognizes him as one of the rising young stars in the AEC industry. All 40 winners were profiled in their January 2010 issue.

Brian started his education at the University of Virginia with hopes of becoming a designer of airplanes; but, after his first internship in the construction industry as a freshman, he was hooked. With 10 years in the construction industry, he has successfully completed projects for higher education and institution clients, which include new construction as well as renovations in existing buildings and occupied facilities. At age 24, Brian was given responsibility to manage the Clark Hall Addition and Renovation project at University of Virginia. The project finished on time, within budget, and with a high level of quality due in large part to Brian’s commitment to the Owner’s objectives. This started Brian’s focus and experience on research facilities – a specialty he is recognized for to this day – as he has successfully delivered over $300 million of laboratory construction over the last seven years.

Brian has spent his career with Barton Malow Company starting as a project engineer and quickly rising to the level of project manager in 2002. In 2007 at age 29, he was named project director.
